Friendship Bonds
For Martin
Three young hearts that beat in time
Made friendship bonds that stayed entwined
When torn apart through pain and sadness
No hint was there of future gladness
As each did make it's way along
One grew faint, but two stayed strong
Such different paths they were to tread
Some filled with joy, some filled with dread
The love between them waned and faded
Not forgotten, but somehow shaded
The memories of their happy times
Stayed in their souls in perfect rhyme
In time the pain of loss grew lighter
New young hearts made life much brighter,
But love that could not ever be
Would always stay between the three
Those friendship bonds that once wore thin
Did not break, they kept us kin
Friendship that was born through sorrow
Survived the storm and its tomorrow
Nothing ventured, nothing gained
No love is lost when truth's maintained
The past was then, the future's now
He knows why, and we know how

In distant times when I was young
I met a girl who bound my tongue
She had a smile that spoke of life
She was an angel free from strife
I loved her in a way so pure
She made me ill, but was the cure
Darkness came that brought me pain
But in my heart her face remained
A lock of shiny silken hair
She gave me once to take great care
I held it tight when evil reigned
It's magic power kept me sane
Others tried to bind my tongue
But not through love their work was done
The years went by and silence ruled
But then one day the truth was fuelled
All was out, my story told
The past not known would soon unfold
But would she still be waiting there
The girl with shiny silken hair?
As time went by and no one knew
If she still drank the morning dew
My heart grew sad and tears did flow
Then from nowhere joy did grow
A message found its way to me
It brought such joy, it set me free
Do not cry my love it said
I am still here, our love's not dead
kept safe and well till danger passed
The lock of hair was back at last
Shining bright, still full of glory
Its promise will complete our story
No more tears of sadness left
The time ahead will be the best
Two hearts once trusted with such love
Are guided now from heaven above.
